Hitachi Energy recently introduced its innovative HyFlex hydrogen-powered generator pilot project at a construction site in Gothenburg, Sweden, in partnership with Skanska, Volvo, and other stakeholders. This project represents a significant step towards decarbonizing heavy industries, with the aim of achieving net-zero emissions. The HyFlex generator, running on green hydrogen supplied by Linde Gas, generates clean electricity to power a Volvo electric excavator used in civil work at the site. This initiative showcases the potential of hydrogen-to-power solutions in reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 5,800 tons annually. The technology behind the HyFlex involves fuel cells that facilitate an emission-free electricity generation process by reacting hydrogen with oxygen, minimizing harmful emissions. With contributions from PowerCell Group, the HyFlex unit is designed to be scalable and efficient, offering a sustainable power solution with reduced noise levels during operation. Hitachi Energy emphasizes the importance of collaboration in advancing breakthrough technologies and accelerating the industry's transition towards carbon neutrality. The company is also working on developing modular variants of the HyFlex generator to cater to different markets and applications, further promoting sustainable and innovative solutions in the energy sector.
