The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) in Hong Kong has partnered with China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Corp.) to promote the development and application of hydrogen energy in the city. The recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to boost collaboration between the two entities in advancing hydrogen energy initiatives. The scope of the MoU includes technical exchanges, capacity building, and the establishment of a green hydrogen production facility at a restored landfill by Sinopec Corp. This facility will produce hydrogen for local use and demonstrate the potential applications of green hydrogen in Hong Kong. The EPD emphasized that the collaboration will not only support the local market but also assist in educating the public about hydrogen energy, aligning with global trends in its safe usage. Tse Chin-wan, the secretary for Environment & Ecology, highlighted the significance of this partnership in positioning Hong Kong as a key player in the national development of hydrogen energy.
