Mitsubishi Power Americas is at the forefront of developing the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub through its subsidiary MHI Hydrogen Infrastructure (MHI H2I). The PNWH2 Hub, an initiative to promote clean energy solutions and meet the nation's sustainable energy targets, is progressing in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) H2Hubs Program. This collaboration aims to address the decarbonization of challenging sectors such as heavy-duty transport and fertilizer production. The recent subrecipient agreement between PNWH2 and MHI H2I's Boardman Hydrogen Hub project signifies a milestone in advancing clean hydrogen infrastructure in the region. The initiative, supported by federal funding from the DOE's Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), underscores a significant investment in establishing a national clean hydrogen network. The PNWH2 Hub, spread across Washington, Oregon, and Montana, comprises eight project groups or nodes, with Node 6 overseen by MHI H2I focusing on clean dispatchable electricity generation and hydrogen supply for transportation. Notable features of the project include hydrogen production through electrolysis, hydrogen pipelines for energy storage, and collaboration with key partners like Portland General Electric and Williams. Overall, the PNWH2 Hub's development highlights a collaborative effort to drive clean energy innovation and reduce carbon emissions in challenging industries.
