Mitsubishi Power, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has won a contract to supply gas and steam turbines for a new 500MW gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant in Sarawak, Malaysia. The project, located in the city of Miri, will be owned and operated by PETROS Power, a subsidiary of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad. The gas turbine to be supplied by Mitsubishi Power is designed to co-fire fuel with up to 30% hydrogen, making it one of the most advanced power generation facilities in Sarawak. The company will also provide auxiliary equipment and technical advisors to support the installation and commissioning process. The Miri GTCC power plant is part of the Sarawak Gas Roadmap, contributing to the region's goal of becoming a high-income state by 2030. Mitsubishi Power's commitment to supporting Malaysia's journey towards net zero emissions is highlighted by its hydrogen-ready technology. The project signifies a step towards global decarbonisation efforts and aims to ensure a stable electricity supply for economic development. Additionally, Mitsubishi Power has established a long-term service agreement with Petros to maintain the power plant's performance. This initiative reflects the company's dedication to leveraging hydrogen potential and driving the energy transition in collaboration with local industry partners.
