The United Arab Emirates is ramping up its efforts towards climate neutrality by 2050, with a specific focus on clean and renewable energy projects like solar power. The country plans to triple its renewable energy capacity to 14.2 GW by 2030, with investments ranging between AED150 billion to AED200 billion. ACWA Power has taken the initiative in promoting renewables, water desalination, battery storage, and green hydrogen advancements to align with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals for energy transition and economic diversification. The MENA region, highlighted in the MESIA Solar Outlook Report 2024, is also intensifying its focus on solar energy, with countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt heavily investing in solar photovoltaic technologies. The report emphasizes advancements in energy storage, solar panel testing, carbon capture, and the integration of solar technology into buildings. ACWA Power furthered its commitment to green hydrogen production by signing an MoU with SEFE to establish a hydrogen bridge between Saudi Arabia and Germany, with the aim of supplying 200,000 tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030. This collaboration will support Germany's decarbonization efforts and increasing demand for green hydrogen. In a separate development, India and Saudi Arabia are strengthening their cooperation in the critical minerals sector to support clean energy technologies. The focus is on resilient mineral supply chains, value-added processing investments, and fostering collaborations to drive sustainable energy practices.
