AES Corp has emerged as a key player in green hydrogen development in the Americas, with a major project underway in Wilbarger County, Texas. This project, with a US$4bn investment, will feature 1.4GW of electrolysis capacity powered by wind and solar energy, set to be operational in 2027. The company is also expanding its green hydrogen presence across Latin America. In Brazil, AES is involved in a project to produce 800,000t/y of green ammonia at the Pecém complex, with an expected investment of US$2bn to US$4bn. AES Colombia is planning to create a hydrogen export hub in La Guajira by producing 800,000t/y of ammonia from 1.1GW of wind power. Meanwhile, AES Andes is working on a green hydrogen project in Chile with an estimated US$10mn investment, focusing on supplying green hydrogen to local mining and port companies. Overall, AES Corp's efforts signal a positive shift towards sustainable energy practices in the region.
