Key Ideas
  • SECI's auction in India reveals winners for 1.5 GW of electrolyzer manufacturing capacity, supporting the country's green hydrogen transition.
  • Three categories - Bucket 1, 2A, and 2B - with different capacity requirements and stack technology mandates were part of the auction.
  • Winners include Adani Enterprises, Waaree Energies, Matrix Gas and Renewables, Avaada, Ohmium, and others, with specific MW allocations.
  • Manufacturing facilities have strict quality requirements and deadlines, with the opportunity for quarterly incentives for five years post-commissioning.
Adani Enterprises, Waaree Energies, Matrix Gas and Renewables, Avaada, and Ohmium are some of the winners of a significant auction by SECI in India. The auction aimed to establish 1.5 GW of electrolyzer manufacturing capacity as part of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's SIGHT program. Divided into three categories, the auction saw companies like Adani Enterprises, Eastern Electrolyser, Newtrace, Suryaashish KA1 Solar Park, Newage Green Electro, Advait Infratech, and GH2 Solar being awarded different capacities based on stack technology and other requirements. The electrolyzers must meet specific quality standards, including a guaranteed life of 60,000 hours and maintaining efficiency. Local value addition percentages have also been specified, with incentives available for the manufacturing facilities post-commissioning. The initiative aims to boost the production of green hydrogen and support India's transition towards cleaner energy sources.
