Plug Power Inc., a leading provider of hydrogen solutions, has announced a significant contract with H2DRIVEN to offer Technical Evaluation Phase (TEP) support for 25 megawatts of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Electrolyzers for a green methanol project in Portugal. The project, developed by Dourogás and CapWatt, aims to produce 80,000 tons of green methanol annually by combining synthesis gas from biomass gasification with green hydrogen generated through water electrolysis powered by solar energy. This initiative will contribute to cleaner energy in heavy industry and mobility sectors. The collaboration between Plug and H2DRIVEN focuses on advancing the project through the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) process, leveraging Plug's expertise in PEM technology to guide the client successfully. Plug's CEO, Andy Marsh, highlighted the company's leadership in PEM electrolyzer technology and its capability to provide essential support for such projects. H2DRIVEN's goals include strengthening the economy, promoting innovation, and reducing emissions significantly by 2027. Once the TEP phase is completed, the project will move towards the Final Investment Decision (FID) phase with an expected operational timeline by the end of 2026. Plug Power's dedication to building a green hydrogen ecosystem, including production, storage, and delivery solutions, positions it as a key player in advancing sustainable energy solutions globally.
