Toray Industries, Inc. has been chosen by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to construct a gigawatt-class mass production system for electrolyte membranes as part of the Green Transformation Supply Chain Development Support Program. This initiative aligns with Japan's goal to decarbonize while promoting economic growth. Toray's innovative hydrocarbon-based electrolyte membrane improves the performance of PEM water electrolyzer, a crucial technology for industry's green transformations. Collaborating with Yamanashi Prefecture and other companies, Toray is developing a power-to-gas system to shift high-energy-consuming equipment to hydrogen. The company's investment plan of ¥56 billion aims to exceed 10 gigawatts of water electrolyzer capacity by fiscal 2028. Toray envisions a substantial growth in the electrolyte membrane market, targeting over 100 billion yen annually by the early 2030s.
