Accelera™ by Cummins, the zero-emissions business segment of Cummins Inc., is set to supply a 100-megawatt (MW) proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer system for bp's Lingen green hydrogen project in Germany. This initiative, bp's largest hydrogen production plant to date, will utilize Accelera's advanced HyLYZER® PEM electrolyzer technology. The 100 MW electrolyzer system, composed of 20 PEM HyLYZER®-1000 units, will be powered by renewable electricity from offshore wind, ensuring the production of green hydrogen. Once operational in 2027, it is expected to generate up to 11,000 tons of green hydrogen annually.
The project's regional impact is significant, with the produced hydrogen set to support bp's Lingen refinery and various industrial customers in Germany, including steel and chemical producers, aiding in the country's hydrogen economy development. Through technological innovation, Accelera aims to deliver enhanced efficiency, scalability, and optimized system design in large-scale hydrogen production. The project aligns with bp's commitment to sustainability, as highlighted by Felipe Arbelaez, emphasizing the evolution of the Lingen refinery to facilitate low-carbon hydrogen production for operational and industrial decarbonization.
With a focus on advancing the green hydrogen economy, Accelera's expertise in electrolyzer technology is showcased, having deployed over 600 units globally. The company's track record includes operational facilities in Canada and the U.S., contributing to the acceleration of the clean energy transition. Accelera, as a segment of Cummins Inc., plays a vital role in providing zero-emissions solutions for various industries worldwide, contributing to a sustainable future. The partnership between Accelera and bp in the Lingen green hydrogen project signifies a milestone in the energy transition and emphasizes the importance of green hydrogen in achieving decarbonization goals.
