The revised budget estimate for the financial year 2025 allots Rs 347 crore for the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Auto scheme, indicating a delay in disbursing incentives. In a recent announcement, the government has allocated a significant sum of Rs 2,819 crore for the PLI scheme in the financial year 2026, aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing of advanced automotive technology products. Originally launched in 2021 with a budget of Rs 3,500 crore for FY25, the scheme has been revised due to delays in incentive distribution. The PLI Auto scheme incentivizes the production of battery electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and high-tech components, with incentives ranging from 8% to 18% based on the product category. Notably, at least 50% of the product's value must be generated within the country. Various prominent companies including Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar, and Hero MotoCorp have been approved to participate in the scheme's Champion OEM category. Additionally, companies like Sona BLW Precision, Bharat Forge, Bosch, and Maruti Suzuki are among the 67 approved for the Component Champion category. The government has stated that both Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra have submitted incentive claims for the financial year 2024, which have been approved. The first round of incentives under the PLI Auto scheme is expected to be disbursed in the current financial year, further boosting the automotive manufacturing sector.
