India's Green Hydrogen Ambitions: Reliance, ReNew, and Others Bid for Incentives
Key Ideas
- Fourteen companies, including Reliance Green Hydrogen and ReNew E-Fuels, bid for incentives under India's green hydrogen scheme to produce 450,000 tonnes of green hydrogen.
- The Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme offers a maximum benefit of Rs 5,400 crore with decreasing incentives over three years.
- The National Green Hydrogen Mission in India plans to develop a production capacity of 5 MMT per annum and add 125 GW of renewable energy capacity, supporting domestic manufacturing and green hydrogen production.
- The mission also aims to identify and develop regions as green hydrogen hubs and support pilot projects in various end-use sectors and production pathways.
Fourteen companies, including Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals, ReNew E-Fuels, Waaree Clean Energy Solution, and Avaada Green H2, have submitted bids under India's green hydrogen transition scheme. The technical bids for incentives for green hydrogen production capacity of about 450,000 tonnes were opened under the second tranche of the scheme. The maximum benefits available under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme include Rs 5,400 crore, with decreasing incentives over three years. The National Green Hydrogen Mission in India, initiated in January 2023, aims to develop green hydrogen production capacity of at least 5 MMT per annum and add 125 GW of renewable energy capacity, supporting domestic manufacturing of electrolysers and green hydrogen production. The mission also includes provisions to support pilot projects in emerging end-use sectors and identify regions as green hydrogen hubs for large-scale production and utilization.
