Professor Kevin Noonan has been appointed as the associate head of the Department of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. His new role, effective from June 1, involves overseeing the department's infrastructure, instrumentation, and working on curriculum development. Noonan expressed enthusiasm for upcoming scientific and teaching opportunities, including the utilization of the new Cloud Lab and the Richard King Mellon building. His research focuses on energy and the environment, particularly in developing materials for membranes in electrolyzers to lower the cost of hydrogen fuel production. Noonan actively engages in teaching undergraduate and graduate students, co-chairs the Graduate Program Committee, and conducts outreach activities to promote alternative energy technologies. He is involved in collaborative research within the Center for Alkaline-Based Energy Solutions, aiming to advance next-generation electrolyzers and fuel cells.
