Samsung Heavy Industries has partnered with Amoji, a U.S. technology venture company, to develop next-generation ammonia fuel cells. The companies signed a strategic investment and next-generation technology development cooperation agreement at the Pangyo R&D Center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. Amoji's cracking technology breaks down ammonia to produce hydrogen, while Samsung Heavy Industries aims to optimize ammonia power packs for large ships. This collaboration is driven by the need to transition to eco-friendly solutions in the maritime industry post the LNG era. The focus is on advancing carbon-free sea transportation through innovative product development and practical applications. Samsung Heavy Industries plans to establish a comprehensive value chain solution for ammonia, including the development of an ammonia FSRU for efficient ammonia supply from sea to land. The partnership underscores a commitment to sustainability and technological advancement in the marine sector.
