Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra have claimed around Rs 246 crore as production-linked incentives for incremental production under the PLI scheme, as announced by the Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy. The PLI-Auto scheme, with a budgetary allocation of Rs 25,938 crore, aims to boost the automobile and auto components industry by enhancing India's manufacturing capabilities in Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) products. The incentives under this scheme range from 13% to 18% for components related to electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen fuel cells, while other AAT components receive incentives between 8% and 13%. Both companies have successfully applied for incentives based on determined sales of AAT products in 2023-24, with Tata Motors submitting a claim of approximately Rs 142.13 crore and Mahindra & Mahindra submitting a claim of Rs 104.08 crore. These claims reflect substantial cumulative investments in AAT products. The PLI scheme, operational from financial year 2023-24 to 2027-28, has already attracted investments of Rs 20,715 crore, resulting in incremental sales of Rs 10,472 crore. The successful implementation of the scheme indicates a positive outlook for the growth and development of India's automotive sector.
