Van den Herik Leads in Sustainable Maritime Operations with Hydrogen-Powered Genset
Key Ideas
  • Van den Herik partners with zepp.solutions to develop a hydrogen fuel cell generator set for the Prins 6 crane vessel, aiming to decarbonize operations in construction and maritime sectors.
  • By using zepp.solutions' X150 fuel cell system, the genset will reduce annual emissions by 165 tonnes of CO2 eq. and 2 tonnes of nitrogen, aligning with sustainability goals.
  • The project's innovative approach led to its recognition as a Leader project by TPKV, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with Rijkswaterstaat in achieving emission-free operations.
  • The purchase agreement was finalized at the InfraTech exhibition in Rotterdam, highlighting the commitment of Van den Herik and zepp.solutions to sustainable solutions in the industry.
Dutch company Van den Herik-Sliedrecht has teamed up with zepp.solutions to develop a hydrogen fuel cell generator set to power the battery-electric crane vessel, Prins 6. This initiative aims to decarbonize construction and maritime operations, starting with dredging and embankment work along the IJssel. By utilizing zepp.solutions' X150 fuel cell system, the genset will not only power the Prins 6 but also allow for the charging of other equipment with clean energy while on the quay. This move towards emission-free operations is a significant step for Van den Herik, resulting in a projected annual reduction of 165 tonnes of CO2 eq. and 2 tonnes of nitrogen, as well as minimizing noise pollution. The collaboration between Van den Herik and zepp.solutions has been crucial in achieving sustainable project implementation, aligning with the goals of Rijkswaterstaat. Recognized as a Leader project by TPKV, the development of the emission-free crane ship marks a milestone in the transition towards environmentally friendly maritime activities. The purchase agreement was officially signed during the InfraTech exhibition in Rotterdam, underscoring the companies' commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the industry.
