At the InnoTrans 2024 exhibition, Vossloh Rolling Stock showcased its latest innovation, the Modula BFC modular battery-fuel cell freight locomotive. The locomotive, a part of Vossloh's modular locomotive range, draws on hydrogen propulsion experience from its parent company, CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co. With 400 kW generated from fuel cell modules and the rest from the underfloor battery, the Modula BFC offers robust performance for shunting and heavy goods transport, with orders from customers already in place. The locomotive, rated at 600 kW, can move significant loads at decent speeds while ensuring recharge during breaks in operations. Duisport Rail has shown commitment to environmental sustainability by ordering two Modula BFC locomotives for the Duisburg Gateway terminal, aiming for environmental neutrality through features like photovoltaic generation and hydrogen production. Additionally, Vossloh Rolling Stock featured the Modula EBB variant, undergoing testing, and the DE18 SmartHybrid diesel locomotive with an underfloor battery and HVO fuel, emphasizing emission reduction. The introduction of new control systems and intelligent train control management systems across these locomotives showcases Vossloh's dedication to innovation and sustainability in the rail industry.
