Partnership to Deploy Next-Generation Hydrogen Refuelling System in Europe
Key Ideas
  • Toyota Europe, Hydrogen Refueling Solutions, and ENGIE collaborate to introduce a faster and cost-efficient hydrogen refuelling system by 2025.
  • The new Twin Mid Flow Technology allows quick refuelling of heavy-duty vehicles in under 10 minutes and light-duty vehicles in under 5 minutes.
  • The project aligns with EU's infrastructure targets, aiming to have hydrogen stations every 200 km along the TEN-T networks by 2030, reducing infrastructure costs and accelerating deployment.
  • The partnership is expected to boost the deployment of hydrogen refuelling stations in Europe, promoting zero-emission transport solutions.
Toyota Motor Europe, Hydrogen Refueling Solutions (HRS), and ENGIE have joined forces to introduce a faster and more cost-efficient hydrogen refuelling system that aligns with the European Union's Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation. The collaboration features the development of the Twin Mid Flow Technology, which enables quick refuelling of heavy-duty and light-duty vehicles in under 10 and 5 minutes, respectively. This innovation eliminates the need for separate dispensers for different vehicle types, reducing infrastructure costs and accelerating deployment. Trials for this technology will begin in late 2025 as part of the EU-funded RHeaDHy project. The project's aim is to meet the EU's mandate of having publicly accessible hydrogen stations every 200 km along the TEN-T networks by 2030. Toyota will provide the test bench and a truck equipped with the new technology, while HRS and ENGIE will develop and test compatible hydrogen refuelling stations. The partnership is seen as a significant step towards expanding hydrogen ecosystems and advancing sustainable mobility solutions. With a positive sentiment, the collaboration is expected to drive the deployment of hydrogen refuelling stations in Europe, supporting the transition to zero-emission transport solutions.
