The Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) and Cruh21 have jointly published a report highlighting a collaborative effort between Scotland and Germany in the realm of green hydrogen. Titled 'Enabling Green Hydrogen Exports: Matching Scottish Production to German Demand,' the report delves into the assessment of hydrogen production potential in Scotland and the corresponding demand in Germany. It envisions scenarios where Scottish hydrogen exports could potentially fulfill a significant portion of Germany's hydrogen import volume by 2045, ranging from 22% to 100%. The report outlines a roadmap with two distinct stages: a short-term phase until 2030 focusing on early production and end-use activities, and a longer-term phase spanning 2030-2045 that involves the commissioning and ramp-up of pipeline infrastructure for efficient export. Furthermore, the report emphasizes the necessity of technologies, infrastructure developments, and regulatory frameworks to ensure the safe and effective distribution of hydrogen. Recommendations in the report stress the importance of research priorities, infrastructure investments, energy partnerships, and the need to adapt export targets to align with evolving demand patterns.
