Toyota, HRS, and ENGIE Partner for High-Speed Hydrogen Refuelling System in Europe
Key Ideas
  • Toyota, HRS, and ENGIE collaborate to deploy a faster and cost-efficient hydrogen refuelling system by 2025.
  • The new Twin Mid Flow Technology aims to reduce refuelling time for heavy-duty and light-duty vehicles, eliminating the need for separate dispensers.
  • The project aligns with EU's infrastructure targets, with the goal of installing hydrogen stations every 200 km along the TEN-T networks by 2030.
  • The partnership is expected to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen refuelling stations in Europe, promoting zero-emission transport solutions.
Toyota Motor Europe, Hydrogen Refueling Solutions (HRS), and ENGIE have joined forces to introduce a high-speed hydrogen refuelling system in Europe. This collaboration aims to deploy the new Twin Mid Flow Technology, which will significantly reduce refuelling times for heavy-duty and light-duty vehicles. The innovative dual-nozzle dispenser will enable refuelling a 40-tonne truck for 600 km in just 8 minutes and for 900 km in 12 minutes. By eliminating the need for separate dispensers, infrastructure costs will decrease, and deployment will be accelerated. The project, part of the EU-funded RHeaDHy initiative, aligns with the European Union's push for Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which mandates the installation of hydrogen stations every 200 km along the TEN-T networks by 2030. Toyota will provide a test bench and a truck equipped with the new technology, while HRS and ENGIE will develop and test hydrogen refuelling stations compatible with the innovation. Toyota views this partnership as a strategic move to expand hydrogen ecosystems and promote sustainable mobility solutions. The collaboration has been positively received by key figures, with Thiebault Paquet from Toyota and Hassen Rachedi from HRS highlighting the innovation's potential to make hydrogen stations more accessible and cost-effective. ENGIE, which will lead the RHeaDHy project, emphasized the importance of setting new standards for sustainable mobility and advancing high-flow refuelling solutions. Overall, the partnership between Toyota, HRS, and ENGIE is poised to drive the deployment of hydrogen refuelling stations across Europe, supporting the transition to zero-emission transportation and aligning with the EU's decarbonization goals.
