The UK government has announced a £30 million investment in clean maritime technologies through the latest round of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC6). This funding aims to support innovative projects in areas such as electric, hydrogen, wind power, and more to drive decarbonisation within the maritime sector. Previous funding rounds have already resulted in over 300 organizations receiving support, leading to more than £100 million in private investments across the UK. Successful projects include the establishment of electric chargepoint networks in ports, the retrofitting of a hydrogen research vessel, and the installation of a carbon capture system on a vessel. The funding is part of the government's strategy to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and transition towards zero-emission shipping. Notably, the GT Wings' AirWing wind propulsion system in Hull is set to reduce emissions on vessels by up to 30%, showcasing the impact of such initiatives. The CMDC Round 6, managed by Innovate UK, will continue to drive innovation in decarbonisation within the maritime sector, providing opportunities for UK innovators to contribute to a greener future.
