Tata Motors has embarked on a groundbreaking journey by launching the first-ever trials of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks in India. The historic trial was inaugurated on 4th March 2025, with key government officials commending the initiative for its potential to transform India's transportation sector. Shri Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, emphasized the importance of hydrogen as the future fuel with the ability to reduce emissions and improve energy self-reliance. The trials will see 16 advanced hydrogen-powered vehicles, equipped with cutting-edge technologies like Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines (H2ICE) and Fuel Cells (H2-FCEV), being tested on major freight routes spanning cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi-NCR, Surat, and more. Tata Motors' Executive Director, Mr. Girish Wagh, expressed pride in leading India's transition towards greener and sustainable mobility, highlighting the company's commitment to innovation and nation-building.
