Toyota is retrofitting its hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains to 10 motor coaches for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, as part of its role as the worldwide mobility partner of the IOC and IPC. These converted coaches will transport over 5,000 visitors during the Games and later serve customers in the Ile de France region, promoting zero-emission transportation. Toyota will provide its fuel-cell modules to convert used Iveco coaches for the GCK consortium, with the first converted coach already unveiled in France. This initiative aligns with Toyota's strategy of offering a variety of eco-friendly powertrains and emphasizes the versatility of hydrogen technology. The company aims to showcase how hydrogen applications can have long-term benefits for various stakeholders in the transport sector. Thiebault Paquet, VP at Toyota Motor Europe, highlighted the importance of this conversion process in achieving carbon neutrality. The partnership with B.E. Green, a French carbon-neutral transportation service provider, signifies the integration of hydrogen vehicles into sustainable fleets post-Games. The innovative conversion involves replacing conventional engines with electric motors and Toyota fuel-cell modules, emphasizing the potential for traditional transport to become emission-free.
