TR Group, a truck hire company based in New Zealand, has launched its latest innovation at an event in Hampton Downs Racetrack. The new hydrogen 50-tonne prime mover, converted from a DAF CF 530 by Global Bus Ventures, offers zero-emission capabilities and refuels in a comparable time to diesel trucks. This partnership with GBV, K1W1, and Toyota New Zealand has equipped the truck with Toyota fuel cells, a battery system, and on-board hydrogen storage, providing a driving range of around 500 kilometers. TR Group's General Manager, Brendan King, highlights the company's commitment to decarbonisation efforts with this addition to their fleet, alongside other hydrogen truck options like the Hyundai Xcient FCEV rigid chassis trucks. The 20 hydrogen fuel cell trucks are part of a government-supported initiative with Hiringa Energy, offering competitive lease rates. TR Group's existing hydrogen-powered vehicles have already shown success, with one truck operated by NZ Post contractor Shea Transport accumulating significant mileage and CO2 savings. This initiative signifies TR Group's leadership in sustainable transportation solutions in New Zealand and Australia, aligning with the growing focus on environmental sustainability in the transportation industry.
