AMSL Aero has signed a memorandum of understanding with Archerfield Airport to explore the development of liquid hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, setting the stage for zero-emission flights in Queensland. This initiative aims to enable environmentally friendly passenger and medical flights during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The collaboration comes after AMSL Aero's eVTOL aircraft, Vertiia, marked a significant milestone by completing its first free flight. Vertiia, known for its hybrid electric technology, combines the vertical take-off and landing capabilities of a helicopter with the speed and efficiency of a fixed-wing aeroplane. The partnership between AMSL Aero and Archerfield Airport is not only focused on refuelling infrastructure but also includes plans for maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities to support advanced air mobility. AMSL Aero's Vertiia, which can travel up to 1,000 kilometers on hydrogen with zero carbon emissions, is set to revolutionize aviation by offering sustainable transportation solutions. The collaboration aims to enhance transportation efficiency by introducing fleets of Vertiias that can transport passengers from Sydney to Brisbane in less than 3.5 hours, bypassing traffic congestion. Archerfield Airport's proactive approach in supporting advanced air mobility aligns with its strategic geographic location near major centers and Olympic zones. The partnership anticipates commercial flights by AMSL Aero customers post regulatory approval in 2028/29, with deposits already secured for 26 Vertiia aircraft orders. Aviation Logistics, a tenant of Archerfield Airport, is positioned to leverage advanced air mobility opportunities, particularly in the lead-up to the Brisbane Olympics.
