The UAE's aviation sector, a significant contributor to the country's GDP, faces the challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. In response, a long-term decarbonization strategy focusing on hydrogen within the aviation industry has been proposed. This strategy aims to leverage technological innovations to transition to Liquid Green Hydrogen (LGH) as the primary aviation fuel, produced alongside PV farms to capitalize on the UAE's solar energy resources. Additionally, policy recommendations emphasize the need for the development of hydrogen-powered long-haul aircraft and collaboration in global research efforts to facilitate decarbonization. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) emerges as a crucial interim solution, with airlines setting consumption targets. While SAF offers implementation advantages, challenges such as limited global biomass feedstock supply pose obstacles to sustainable fuel production. The UAE's commitment to environmental obligations and economic growth drives the exploration of hydrogen-powered solutions and sustainable aviation fuel to mitigate the sector's carbon footprint and ensure long-term sustainability.
