Hypersonix Launch Systems, an Australian aerospace company specializing in hydrogen scramjet propulsion technology and hypersonic aircraft design, has signed a framework contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to advance the United Kingdom's hypersonic capabilities. This partnership is part of the Hypersonic Technologies and Capability Development Framework (HTCDF) initiative, aimed at accelerating the development of a sovereign hypersonic capability to bolster the UK's defense force. The MOD has selected over 90 companies, including Hypersonix, to provide the necessary technology for this program. The MOD plans to invest approximately AU$1.9 billion over seven years to leverage services, technologies, and testing capabilities from these accredited framework suppliers. Hypersonix's CEO, Matt Hill, expressed pride in contributing their leading hypersonic technology to AUKUS nation defense programs. Additionally, Hypersonix was previously awarded the HyCAT program by the US Defense Innovation Unit to develop and fly the DART (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Aerojet RocketdyneTestbed) hypersonic test bed. The DART aircraft, a hydrogen-fueled Mach 7 plane with a Spartan scramjet engine, is set for its inaugural flight in early 2025, marking significant progress in hypersonic aviation technology.
