Masdar and TotalEnergies have entered into an agreement to assess the feasibility of developing a commercial green hydrogen to methanol to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project in Abu Dhabi. This initiative aims to address the emissions from hard-to-abate sectors like aviation and maritime by utilizing green hydrogen from renewable sources for the production of sustainable fuels. The partnership also includes capturing CO2 for feedstock from industrial sources. The collaboration is in line with UAE's goals for sustainable aviation fuel and low-carbon hydrogen promotion. Masdar, known for its commitment to sustainability and climate action, is set to increase its renewable energy capacity and become a prominent producer of green hydrogen. The project with TotalEnergies aligns with Masdar's strategy to support the aviation industry's target of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The UAE's ambition in the hydrogen sector is significant, aiming to produce 1.4 million tons annually by 2031 and increase it to 15 million tons by 2050. This partnership signifies a step towards a sustainable future, emphasizing economic growth, sustainability, and energy security through the development of innovative green hydrogen to SAF projects.
