Red Sea Global Introduces Sustainable Aviation Fuel to Saudi Arabia
Key Ideas
  • Red Sea Global partners with daa International and APSCO to bring Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to Saudi Arabia, reducing carbon emissions by up to 35% per aircraft.
  • SAF is blended with Jet A1 aviation fuel at a ratio of 35% SAF and 65% Jet A1 at Red Sea International Airport, following international aviation standards.
  • Fly Red Sea commits to using SAF and Lower-Carbon Aviation Fuel (LCAF) exclusively for its fleet, aligning with a broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions and environmental sustainability.
  • The introduction of SAF at Red Sea International is part of Red Sea Global's efforts to reduce carbon emissions, power operations with solar energy, and increase mangrove density by 50 million by 2030.
Red Sea Global (RSG) has signed a deal to bring Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to Saudi Arabia for the first time, in partnership with daa International and Arabian Petroleum Supply Company (APSCO). The SAF, blended with traditional Jet A1 fuel at 35% SAF and 65% Jet A1, reduces carbon emissions by up to 35% per aircraft. This initiative aligns with international aviation standards and aims to promote environmental sustainability in the aviation industry. John Pagano, Group CEO of RSG, emphasizes the importance of reducing the carbon footprint of travelers visiting The Red Sea and AMAALA destinations. Fly Red Sea, RSG's air operator, commits to using sustainable fuels like SAF and Lower-Carbon Aviation Fuel (LCAF) for its fleet, contributing to the goal of achieving net-zero emissions. Additionally, RSG's efforts extend to using solar energy to power operations and increasing mangrove density to protect the ecosystem. Michael White, RSI's Chief Commercial Officer, highlights the significance of introducing SAF at Red Sea International in promoting environmental stewardship and sustainability. The initiative has already enabled domestic and international flights to operate with reduced carbon emissions, marking a positive step towards a sustainable aviation industry.
