Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has joined hands with BluJ Aerospace, ANERT, and Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) to pioneer India's first hydrogen-powered Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft ecosystem in Kochi. This strategic partnership marks a significant step towards sustainable air mobility in the region and aligns with India's ambitious goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070. The Memorandum of Understanding signed in Kochi sets the stage for introducing green hydrogen-powered VTOL aircraft, which promise enhanced speed, reduced noise, and improved efficiency. By focusing on green hydrogen technology, the project is expected to make a substantial impact on cutting carbon emissions, thereby establishing a new global standard in aviation innovation. BPCL's pivotal role encompasses the development of hydrogen refueling infrastructure in Kochi and Trivandrum, along with research to create an Indigenous Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Hydrogen Fuel Cell essential for vertical lift-off. This initiative not only propels India's hydrogen technology capabilities forward but also solidifies BPCL's position as a leader in green energy solutions. The collaboration involves key industry leaders like BPCL's Business Head – Renewable Energy, Ranjan Nair, and representatives from ANERT and BluJ Aerospace. BPCL's Hydrogen Refueling Stations are set to play a crucial role in Kerala's Hydrogen Valley Programme, promoting the adoption of hydrogen-powered transportation solutions and underscoring the company's dedication to advancing clean energy and sustainable aviation technologies.
