The recent Malaysia Commercialisation Year (MCY) Summit 2024, held in Kuala Lumpur, showcased Sarawak's advancements in the hydrogen sector, particularly focusing on establishing a major hydrogen hub along with international partnerships to boost local and global markets. Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni, highlighted Sarawak's strategic plans to increase revenue from the hydrogen sector, foreseeing the state as a significant player in the global hydrogen market by 2030. The Sarawak Hydrogen Hub in Bintulu aims to annually produce 250,000 tons of green hydrogen, with a majority intended for export. Collaborative projects with Japanese and South Korean companies are expected to yield substantial economic benefits and support Malaysia's clean energy goals. Moreover, the inauguration of Malaysia's first electrolyser assembly and distribution facility in Sarawak signifies a crucial step towards realizing its vision of becoming a prominent regional hydrogen hub. The panel discussion at the summit included key figures from the Malaysian government, International Renewable Energy Agency, and NanoMalaysia, emphasizing the importance of hydrogen in driving economic growth and sustainability.
