Gothenburg Port Unveils Green Hydrogen Refueling Station for Heavy Traffic
Key Ideas
  • New hydrogen refueling station at Gothenburg Port aims to transition heavy transport to sustainable fuels.
  • Strategically located near a busy gate, the station caters to heavy vehicles and work machinery.
  • Operated by Hydri, the station is part of a larger network planned for Sweden by 2025, supported by the Swedish Energy Agency.
  • The CEO of Qarlbo Energy emphasizes the station's role in promoting a carbon-neutral transport sector.
A new hydrogen refueling station has been launched at the Port of Gothenburg, specifically designed for heavy traffic. The station exclusively provides green hydrogen, positioning it as a key element in the shift towards more sustainable fuels for heavy transportation. Viktor Allgurén, the Head of Innovation at the port, highlighted the station's strategic location near one of the busiest gates, enabling not only truck refueling but also servicing of work machinery, complementing the existing electric charging infrastructure. Situated adjacent to Gate 6 at the Gothenburg RoRo Terminal, the station benefits from the heavy traffic flow, with around 400,000 heavy vehicle passages annually. Furthermore, the upcoming relocation of Stena Line's terminals from Germany and Denmark to Arendal is anticipated to boost vehicle activity in the region. The station, managed by Hydri, is the first of around 20 hydrogen refueling stations planned for Sweden by 2025. This initiative is partially funded by the Swedish Energy Agency. Michel Thomas, the CEO of Qarlbo Energy and Chairman of the Board at Hydri, expressed that the establishment of this station is a significant stride towards achieving a carbon-neutral transport sector.
