MOL and KEPCO Partner for Liquefied Hydrogen Carrier Development Study
Key Ideas
- MOL and KEPCO signed an MoU for a joint study on a liquefied hydrogen carrier.
- The collaboration will focus on vessel design, operational strategies, and safety standards for liquefied hydrogen transport.
- This agreement signifies a commitment to establishing a hydrogen fuel supply chain and a zero-carbon society.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and The Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly study the development of a liquefied hydrogen carrier. The partnership aims to analyze optimal vessels and operational strategies within the liquefied hydrogen supply chain, as well as the safety standards required for these vessels. Additionally, MOL and KEPCO will review international laws and regulations related to the marine transport of liquefied hydrogen. This collaboration is a significant milestone in Japan, marking the first agreement between a shipping company and a power generation company specifically focusing on the marine transport of liquefied hydrogen. Both companies are dedicated to advancing the study of liquefied hydrogen marine transport to support the establishment of a hydrogen supply chain and foster the transition to a zero-carbon society.
