Purus Expands Ammonia Transport Fleet with Innovative Gas Carriers in South Korea
Key Ideas
- Purus has ordered two dual-fuel ammonia-ready gas carriers at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea to enhance its ammonia transport fleet.
- The vessels, with a capacity of 45,000 cubic meters each, are designed for maximum flexibility and efficiency in transporting ammonia primarily.
- This expansion is part of Purus' commitment to clean energy solutions, including ammonia, hydrogen, and carbon capture utilization and storage.
- The collaboration with Bluewater will focus on providing worldwide clean energy floating storage and offloading solutions, contributing to the global shift towards sustainable energy.
Purus, a provider of maritime services for the gas transport and offshore wind industries, has placed an order for the construction of two dual-fuel ammonia-ready medium-sized gas carriers (MGCs) at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea. The 45,000 cubic meter vessels, expected to transport ammonia primarily, will be delivered in 2027. These gas carriers will feature an innovative cargo handling system aimed at maximizing flexibility and efficiency. Once operational, they will increase Purus' ammonia transport fleet to nine units, complementing the existing fleet of three MGCs in operation and four more to be delivered by 2026. In line with the company's focus on clean energy, Purus recently completed a ship-to-ship ammonia transfer near the port of Ceuta. Additionally, Purus has partnered with Bluewater to provide clean energy floating storage and offloading solutions globally, targeting low-carbon ammonia, clean hydrogen, and carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) initiatives. This strategic alliance aligns with the transition towards sustainable energy practices and showcases Purus' commitment to environmental responsibility.
