VINSSEN Co., Ltd, a specialist in maritime decarbonization technology, marked a significant milestone with a launch ceremony in Seoul, South Korea, for the hull construction of a hydrogen-powered leisure boat on October 8. The 17.4m boat, designed to accommodate up to 10 passengers, features a 600kW propulsion system powered by hydrogen fuel cells and high-voltage batteries developed by VINSSEN. With design approval from the Korea Marine Traffic Safety Authority, it is set to become the first leisure boat of its kind in the country.
The R&D project, titled 'Demonstration of the Charging and Operation of a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powered Boat,' involves collaborations with Jeonnam Technopark, Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute, and Korea Institute of Industrial Technology. Each partner contributes expertise in technical support, hull stability assessment, and quality management to advance eco-friendly maritime mobility technologies.
VINSSEN's plans include building hydrogen fuel cell leisure boats during the demonstration phase, along with establishing a hydrogen charging station in Yeongam-gun. CEO Chil Han LEE highlights the project's importance in achieving carbon neutrality and aims to promote hydrogen power adoption for a more sustainable maritime environment in Korea and beyond.
