Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and KPIT Technologies have joined forces to advance hydrogen mobility in Kerala under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The partnership focuses on introducing fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs) and establishing Hydrogen Refuelling Stations (HRS) in the cities of Kochi and Trivandrum. This collaboration, formalized at an energy summit in Kochi, aims to drive sustainable transportation in India. The initiative will enable pilot programs to test the feasibility of hydrogen-based public transport, promoting a cleaner environment and reducing carbon footprints. BPCL's HRS units will ensure a reliable supply of high-purity green hydrogen for fuel cell buses, while KPIT Technologies will test indigenously developed hydrogen fuel cells to enhance their performance in real-world conditions. By integrating locally developed technology, this initiative aligns with India's self-reliant vision, laying the groundwork for a robust hydrogen mobility ecosystem in the country. The project is anticipated to catalyze widespread adoption of hydrogen in India's public transportation domain, supporting the nation's aspirations for green energy and sustainable development.
