California is making significant strides in transitioning to zero-emission transportation with Governor Gavin Newsom announcing a $500 million investment to add 1,000 clean school buses across the state. This initiative aims to reduce 18,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, equivalent to taking over 4,000 cars off the road for a year. Additionally, the Clean Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) in the state has experienced a 177% increase in demand, deploying over 200 zero-emission trucks and buses in February alone. The Zero-Emissions School Bus and Infrastructure (ZESBI) project is selecting educational agencies to receive the buses and related charging infrastructure, targeting rural, low-income, and disadvantaged communities. California seeks to have all school bus purchases be zero-emission by 2035. To date, California has provided over $1.3 billion in incentives, funding more than 2,300 zero-emission school buses. The state is also focusing on clean trucks and buses, with HVIP investing $754 million over 15 years to deploy 10,000 clean vehicles. Over 5,000 additional zero-emission vehicles are in production to meet the increasing demand.
