In Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is undertaking a significant initiative to establish a sustainable and resilient public transport system. Under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the supervision of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the RTA has awarded a contract for the purchase of 636 buses, which includes 40 electric buses, marking a significant step towards enhancing the public transport infrastructure in Dubai. The new buses comply with European specifications for low carbon emissions (Euro 6) and are part of Dubai's goal to increase the share of public transport journeys to 25% by 2030. These buses are set to be delivered between 2024 and 2025, with a focus on elevating the public transport system to meet international standards. The initiative also supports the UAE's aim of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and Dubai's Economic Agenda D33 to strengthen the city's position as a global hub. The buses will feature advanced technologies like the Driver Behaviour Monitoring System and the Automated Passenger Counting system to ensure safety and efficiency. The purchase of these buses reflects RTA's commitment to providing top-quality services to residents and visitors and highlights the agency's determination to make public transport the preferred mode of mobility.
