The Hungarian intercity bus company Volánbusz is set to enhance its green public transportation by acquiring 20 new environmentally friendly electric buses. With financial backing from the Ministry of Energy and mobility agency HUMDA, the buses will be incorporated into the local fleet of six small towns. The Ikarus Group will supply the fully electric Ikarus 120e buses under a recently signed contract. These buses are part of a larger initiative to promote sustainability and reduce emissions in public transport. The new e-buses will be distributed across towns like Balatonfüred, Hajdúszoboszló, Keszthely, Komárom, Komló, and Tata, with operations expected to begin in the first half of 2025. The buses boast impressive technical specifications, able to accommodate 85 passengers, travel up to 300 kilometers on a single charge, and contribute to the ongoing development of a green fleet. Additionally, plans are in place to introduce a hydrogen fuel cell bus from Volánbusz in 2026. Volánbusz, in partnership with Mobiliti Volánbusz Kft., has received substantial financial aid to facilitate the deployment of these electric buses. The 'Green Buses' program, overseen by HUMDA, has already seen the introduction of 100 electric buses in various Hungarian cities, promoting environmental sustainability and modernizing public transportation infrastructure.
