India's First Green Hydrogen Fuelling Station in Leh by Amara Raja Infra
Key Ideas
- Amara Raja Infra completes India's first green hydrogen fuelling station in Leh, Ladakh, enabling emission-free transport in the region.
- NTPC to deploy five hydrogen fuel cell buses in Leh, promoting sustainable transport in challenging Himalayan terrain.
- The project involved design, construction, and commissioning of the station with a daily green hydrogen production capacity of 80 kg under extreme conditions.
- The initiative serves as a foundation for larger green hydrogen mobility projects under India's National Hydrogen Energy Mission, aiming to create a robust green hydrogen ecosystem.
Amara Raja Infra, a division of the Amara Raja Group, has successfully completed India’s first green hydrogen fuelling station in Leh, Ladakh, for NTPC Ltd. This milestone project supports India’s green mobility initiatives by facilitating emission-free transport in and around Leh. The station was inaugurated by Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs. NTPC plans to introduce five hydrogen fuel cell buses in the area, promoting sustainability in the challenging Himalayan region.
The project, undertaken by Amara Raja Infra, included the complete process from design to operation, with a focus on producing 80 kg of green hydrogen daily. Despite extreme conditions at an altitude of 3,400 meters above sea level and varying temperatures, the station was completed within two years. Dwarakanadha Reddy, Business Head (Power EPC) at Amara Raja Infra, highlighted the project as a demonstration of their expertise in the field of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC).
This initiative not only signifies a significant achievement but also sets the stage for future green hydrogen projects as part of India’s National Hydrogen Energy Mission. The insights gained from this project will help in the strategic deployment of hydrogen fuelling stations nationwide, fostering a more extensive green hydrogen infrastructure in the country.
