The City of Mississauga has obtained significant financial support for two crucial initiatives – affordable housing and zero-emission transit. The federal government's funding announcement included over $28.2 million for the Housing Accelerator Fund, which will aid in the construction of 400 new affordable and below-market rental apartment units in Mississauga. This funding will also help offset development charge reductions for market condo units. Additionally, Mississauga is set to receive more than $112 million in federal funding for transit improvements over the next decade. This funding, sourced from the Canada Public Transit Fund (CPTF) and Zero-Emission Transit Fund, will support enhancements to the city's transit infrastructure. Notably, a portion of the funding, approximately $10.9 million, is allocated for the deployment of 10 hydrogen fuel cell buses in Mississauga – a groundbreaking step towards sustainable and cleaner transit options in the city.
