US bus manufacturer New Flyer has received a substantial order for 108 fuel cell buses from San Mateo County Transit (SamTrans) in California. This marks the largest single order for hydrogen buses in New Flyer's history. SamTrans, operating in San Mateo County and expanding to San Francisco and Palo Alto, has placed firm orders for the 12-meter-long Xcelsior Charge FC buses. The procurement is supported financially by the Federal Transit Administration, local funds, and the Californian HVIP programme to meet California's emission-free fleet target by 2040. Tasha Bartholomew, Communications Manager at SamTrans, highlighted the commitment to sustainable transportation and reducing greenhouse gases. New Flyer's President, Chris Stoddart, emphasized the long-standing partnership with SamTrans, focusing on delivering technological advancements for improved performance and environmental impact reduction. The new generation of hydrogen buses is expected to enhance community air quality and drive towards a sustainable future.
