NFI Group Inc., a subsidiary of New Flyer of America Inc., has secured a significant contract with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) for the supply of zero-emission and hybrid buses. The contract, which covers up to 500 buses, includes an initial order for 75 Xcelsior® hybrid-electric 40-foot transit buses and 25 Xcelsior CHARGE NG™ 35-foot battery-electric buses, with provisions for an additional 400 buses. WMATA, responsible for providing Metrorail and Metrobus services to over six million individuals in the National Capital Region, operates a substantial fleet of 1,500 buses offering round-the-clock services.
