NHPC Ltd has announced a significant investment of ₹5,500 crore in green energy projects, including solar power and green hydrogen initiatives, in collaboration with the Bihar government. The partnership was unveiled at the Bihar Business Connect 2024 summit, showcasing the state's dedication to renewable energy development. The investment will focus on establishing a 1,000 MW solar power capacity to address the rising energy requirements sustainably. NHPC plans to set up a small solar plant to produce green hydrogen for powering passenger buses in Bihar. This green hydrogen, derived from renewable sources, offers an environmentally friendly energy alternative with zero carbon emissions. NHPC will finance hydrogen-powered buses for green mobility, starting with the operation of one such bus and expanding as solar production increases. The company's Chairman emphasized the importance of state support in land acquisitions to prevent project delays. NHPC, a prominent player in renewable energy with significant hydropower capacity, is also involved in similar green hydrogen and solar energy projects in Gujarat and other states. This initiative not only supports the government's clean energy goals but also reflects NHPC's commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability in India's energy sector.
