Spain has approved €1.22bn in funding for green hydrogen hub projects totaling 2.3GW across regions like Aragon, Andalusia, Castilla y León, and Galicia. The projects, part of the H2 Valleys programme by the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), aim to enhance domestic production and use of green hydrogen. Companies like RIC Energy, Naturgy, Enagás Renovable, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Ignis, Repsol, and Moeve are involved in various initiatives. RIC Energy plans to produce green hydrogen combined with captured CO2 to create sustainable aviation fuels. The funding also supports projects like HyBerus, Catalina, A Coruña Hydrogen Valley, Andalusian Hydrogen Valley, and T-Hynet – Tarragona Hydrogen Network. Spain's ambition is to establish itself as a key green hydrogen producer in Europe, utilizing its renewable energy resources efficiently. The country aims to meet 74% of its industrial hydrogen demand from green hydrogen by 2030 and intends to increase its installed electrolyser capacity to 12GW. This funding and strategic focus demonstrate Spain's commitment to the energy transition and sustainability, positioning it as a significant player in the green hydrogen sector.
