Vice President Lucia Witbooi of Namibia has called for the swift finalization and implementation of a comprehensive national policy and regulatory framework to support the country's burgeoning green hydrogen programme and fossil energy industry. During a meeting with the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme (NGHP) executive team, led by Green Hydrogen Commissioner James Mnyupe, Witbooi stressed the importance of inclusivity in opportunities such as recruitment, scholarships, and training, with a focus on empowering young people, marginalized communities, and individuals with disabilities. Namibia currently has seven green hydrogen projects at various development stages, with promising progress seen in initiatives like the Hydrogen-Diesel Dual Fuel Locomotive Project and the H2-Pilot Refueling Station in Walvis Bay. The government aims for these projects to catalyze industrialization and create employment, particularly for the youth, aligning with the country's National Development Plans. The push for a robust policy framework is essential for accelerating the growth of the green hydrogen sector and ensuring sustainable development in Namibia's energy industry.
