NTPC, in collaboration with the Indian Army, is embarking on an innovative project in Ladakh to establish a Solar Hydrogen-based Microgrid at Chushul. This project, inaugurated by Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, aims to provide a stable power supply using Green Hydrogen in off-grid Army locations, replacing diesel gensets with a sustainable and reliable power system. The microgrid system is designed to operate independently round-the-clock throughout the year, offering 200kW of power despite extreme winter conditions at high altitudes. This initiative not only promotes cleaner and sustainable energy practices but also enhances self-sufficiency in challenging terrains. The project's emphasis on renewable energy sources, reduced carbon emissions, and extended energy storage capabilities of hydrogen highlights its potential in transforming the defence sector towards decarbonisation. Moreover, NTPC's commitment to renewable energy targets, green hydrogen technology, and carbon neutrality underscores its dedication to promoting a greener and more sustainable future. The trial run of hydrogen buses in Leh and upcoming projects for hydrogen fuelling stations and solar plants further solidify NTPC's efforts towards achieving these goals.
