NTPC REL, a subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited, has recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Deendayal Port Authority to enhance green energy technologies at Kandla Port, Gujarat. The focus of this MoU lies in promoting a green hydrogen mobility project. This initiative will witness NGEL setting up a green hydrogen fuelling station within Kandla Port, in addition to introducing 11 hydrogen buses for short-haul operations. By replacing fossil fuel buses with clean and green fuel alternatives, the project aims to drive decarbonisation efforts and boost energy security. NTPC has a track record of successful green hydrogen projects, having operated a blending project in Surat, Gujarat, and implemented similar mobility solutions in locations like Leh, Greater Noida, and Bhubaneshwar. Furthermore, NTPC is actively engaged in developing a green hydrogen hub in Vishakhapatnam, with a target of achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, supported by energy storage solutions. The collaborative effort involved in this MoU was highlighted by the presence of dignitaries like the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, indicating a concerted push towards sustainable energy practices.
