NTPC, a state-run power giant in India, has collaborated with GRIDCO and CRUT to set up green hydrogen infrastructure in Odisha. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the parties aims to advance green energy technologies, specifically focusing on a green hydrogen mobility scheme. As part of the agreement, NTPC will establish a green hydrogen fuelling station in Bhubaneswar, along with introducing hydrogen buses for both short-haul and long-haul operations. This move is expected to facilitate the transition from fossil fuel-based buses to cleaner alternatives, supporting decarbonization and enhancing energy security. The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has also provided partial funding for this project. NTPC's existing green hydrogen blending project in Surat and its mobility initiatives in Leh, Greater Noida, and Kandla demonstrate its commitment to sustainable practices. Furthermore, NTPC is working on developing a green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam and has set a target of achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. This collaborative effort signifies a significant step towards promoting clean energy and fostering a more environmentally friendly transportation system in Odisha.
