The Odisha government has taken a significant step towards promoting eco-friendly transportation by signing a tripartite MoU with NTPC, GRIDCO, and CRUT to introduce green hydrogen buses into the state's transport system. The agreement, inked in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo and Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of achieving a net-zero carbon footprint. This partnership is set to revolutionize Odisha's public transport by implementing innovative green energy technologies. The agreement, effective for five years, designates NTPC for hydrogen production, GRIDCO for renewable energy supply, and CRUT for managing bus operations. The project, falling under the National Green Hydrogen Mission's guidelines for pilot projects in the transport sector, will see an investment of ₹19.5 crore from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). This investment aims to facilitate the transition from fossil fuel-based buses to hydrogen-powered, eco-friendly alternatives.
